First Project

Now its time to pick you first item to adapt!

When I started, I began with battery interrupters and this is my recommendation for anyone staring out.

Why battery interrupters? Because battery interrupters:

  1. Are are a good way to practice many of the basic skills necessary required to adapt other toys, such as soldering, wire stripping, and creating female jacks.

  2. Are very versatile. They can be used for many toys such as an art spinner, bubble machine, and a walking barking dog.

  3. Can be made and put into a toy and just live in that toy with no maintenance required. I have done this for many toys and if you do it this way its almost like you hard wired it.

Feeling a little more adventurous? Ready to attempt your first hard wiring of a toy???

For these I recommend going to a drug store or grocery store after a holiday and find one of those dancing toys on clearance. It is a good project to start with and if you mess it up you don’t feel as bad because you got it for 50-70% off.

Important Note & Recommendations: I recommend starting with one that is seated like the Snoopy or the mummy shown above. These are easier as their arms and legs are soft and easier to adapt. If you happen to go with one that stands and dances, look for one that has the button located in it hand as it is easier to start with.

Below I have three examples, all of which stand up right and dance. Example 1: Christmas poop would be the best out of these to start with as the button is located in the hand. Example 2: Hannukah Bear would be the next best one because even though the foot is hard there is a little fluff in the foot. Example 3: The Mummy is the most difficult because the button is on the foot and the entire foot is solid plastic except for the fabric on the outside of the mummy.
