Educational and Play Ideas:

Below I have listed some ideas that I have personally done using these toys.

You can find more ideas at “Don’t Walk Away From That Walking Toy!!” (Gretchen Hanser MS, OTR/L, 6/2002)

  1. A Race!

Have student participate in a race. You can even make a track for the race. Add in a speech output device programed with cheering and have student's cheered on by their classmates.

During the holidays I took tubes from wrapping paper, two foam boards, a table, and shiny paper, all from the Dollar Tree, and made a race track.

You can do the same with PVC pipes. You would need 2, 90 degree joints

2. Game time!

  • Can push a ball off a table into a basket for basket ball

  • Push a ball down a ramp when using a toy bowling set

  • Use the animal as the ball for bowling. They can use the animal to nock over pins.

3. Art Projects!

  • Dip the animals feet in paint of put some paint on a piece of paper and have the animal walk through it to paint.

  • Attach a paint brush or markers to the back or the side of the animals and as it moves it will paint. You can attach it using a velcro strap or a rubber band.

  • For student who are able to use two switches you can set up two different animals each with a different color and the student can switch colors.

4. Literacy Activities!

  • Use the pig when reading the story the “Three Little Pigs.” Students can participate in read allowed by using the pig.

5. Deliveries!

  • You can attach things such as, small dishes for snacks and envelops with notes to the animals using velcro strips. The student can then pass notes or deliver things to their friends.
